Today I am thankful

Tomorrow is the official Thanksgiving Day in America. (and yes, I am writing in English, because our English teacher gave us an assignment: to write a blog text in English). In America, Thanksgiving Day has become a bigger family holiday than Christmas. It sounds weird for Finnish people because we do not even have a day like that. Has anyone ever thought about that before? Wouldn't it be nicer to celebrate things that we are thankful for, instead of the birth of Jesus Christ? Unfortunately the meaning of Christmas has almost disappeared. Among older people the religious meaning of Christmas is more important when compared to the younger generation. For example, for me Christmas means togetherness, peace, food, candles, warmth and generosity. Anything but religion. It is unbelievable how the main purpose has disappeared completely!
Thanksgiving, as well has kind of a religious meaning. Americans celebrate it to give thanks to God for all his blessings and mercies, and the celebration has retained its purpose. When comparing the statistics, Americans are way more religious people than Finns, so maybe it is understandable that we do not care about the meaning of our main holiday, not to mention that we do not even have a Thanksgiving day.
Because of my obsession with this amazing country, America, I decided to make a traditional American Thanksgiving dinner with my friend. I have never heard anyone do the same and I am not even sure if everyone knows about Thanksgiving Day in Finland. Everybody has something to be grateful for, even though they are not believers or religious.

documentary - link <- this link takes you to YLE Areena's documentary, where American pastor Marty Mclain visits Nordic countries. He compares our religious situation to America's and discovers interesting factors. Our religion teacher showed this to us and I found it interesting. After watching this I can tell for sure that Finnish people are not religious.

I am grateful for all the people who have made my life better, especially my family and friends.
I am not only grateful for all the good people and memories that made me smile but also for the bad ones because they have taught me a lesson. People learn from their mistakes so let's not forget the unpleasant memories and people. This beautiful house, my home is also something to be thankful for. I have learnt from my peers that getting to live in a huge house at the age of 18 is not something you should take for granted. My parents have given me the opportunity to live with them as long as I want, I appreciate it. I can not even imagine how poorly I would live without the economic support from my parents.

Most of all I would like to thank all the people who keep reading my posts!

the best parents in the whole world <3
(These quotes are taken from the Internet):

"Never let the things you want, make you forget the things you already have."

"No matter how bad or good you think life is. Wake up each day and be thankful for life. Someone somewhere else is fighting to survive."

"Be thankful for what you have. You have no idea how many people would love to have what you got."
